The Mies van der Rohe MR100 Lounge Chair takes advantage of the aesthetic qualities of tubular steel, a supposedly utilitarian material, while exuding luxury through the contrast between padded leather and the minimalism of its chrome frame.  Designed in 1931, it uses a similar design as the other chairs in the MR series.  The cantilever frame was reinforced giving the chair strength and comfort at the same time.  The continuous closed tubular frame is a feature seen in many Mies van der Rohe furniture pieces and from other masters of the Bauhaus including Gropius and Breuer.
