This limited-edition piece—produced in just 99 numbered units—honors the original design that revolutionized how we display books, stripping away excess to let the volumes themselves become the structure. Crafted from raw, black railway sheet metal, each bookcase is visually unique, showcasing bluish-purple tones that result from the distinctive treatment of the steel.
This collector’s edition blends functionality with symbolism, paying homage to Ptolemy I Soter and the ancient Library of Alexandria. A polished stainless steel base bears the engraved signature of the designer and the emblem of the Compasso d’Oro, while a numbered plaque marks its exclusivity. Like the original, the Special Edition 2024 creates the illusion of a gravity-defying stack of books, making it as much a sculptural object as a storage solution.
